What is the difference between marachekku (wood-pressed) oil and refined oil?
Marachekku oil is crushed slowly in a wooden press without heat or chemicals, so it keeps its natural aroma, colour and nutrients. Refined oil is processed with high heat and chemicals, which removes most of them.
Which cold-pressed oil is best for deep frying, and which for daily cooking?
Groundnut oil handles high heat well, so it suits deep frying. Sesame oil (nallennai) is ideal for kuzhambu, tempering and pickles, and coconut oil for South Indian dishes and poriyal.
Why does cold-pressed oil cost more than refined oil?
A wooden press works slowly and extracts less oil per kilo of seed, and nothing is added to stretch it. You pay for pure seed oil, not blended or chemically extracted oil.
Is your groundnut oil wood pressed, cold pressed or rotary pressed?
We offer groundnut oil made by wood pressed, cold pressed and rotary cold pressed methods. It is single filtered and comes in 250 ml, 500 ml and 1 litre packs.
What is the shelf life of your oils and how should I store them?
Our oils have a shelf life of 6 months. Keep them tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and use a dry spoon or ladle.
